Penny's labor and delivery was pretty uneventful. It was so perfect...
About a week before I delivered I watch the movie "the business of being born". It really made me think about how I wanted this labor and delivery to work. I had been thinking about going 'natural" throughout the whole pregnancy. Everyone that goes "natural" always talks about the euphoric feeling they get after delivering. That sounds great! I was wanting that. The only problem was how committed I was. I watched the movie, and it made me want it more. BUT I was still not sure how much I wanted it.
When my water gushed. I thought I would just play it by ear. We went to the hospital. I couldn't talk during my contractions, but they were bearable. We walked for about an hour after I got back to my delivery room. THEN I sat on the birthing ball. THEN, seriously those contractions got painful. Like...I don't know how you women that go all natural do it. THEY HURT BAD! I decided it wasn't a matter of being able to DO it natural, it was more like if I WANTED to do it. And I most definitely did NOT want to continue in pain. So I got the epidural. I was at a 6. I really don't feel wussy, cuz it was so freaking painful.

I fell asleep, and they woke me up in about 1 1/2 to check me again. The nurse went to check me, and said "um, we better call the doctor". I guess her head was almost crowning. I of course said "SHUT UP?", then she said "I can't make these things up!". I LOVED my delivery nurse...like seriously LOVED her! They doctor showed up within 10 mins of calling, and she basically feel out of me. Like I BARELY pushed once, and then the doctor let me pull her out. It was so much fun. I got to hold her for as long as I wanted. The doctor gave me an A & P lesson on the placenta. It was very interesting.
After I held her to my hearts content, they took her over to score her ( 9 ), and weight. She didn't cry. Like they were dying at how content she was. She barely cried when she came out. She is just delightful.
I nursed her, and she was a champ! Seriously.
I can barely stand how much I love this baby. She is just darling. I want to cuddle with her all day. I am trying really hard not to. You know, I have to pay attention to Grace. but this newborn is so damn cute, I can't stop looking and playing with her.
Grace is camping with my dad right now. So I get all weekend to just cuddle with my baby.
Also, Penny's hair came out light brown. But when my mom bathed her yesterday it turned blond. How fun! Just blond fuzz. AND she has the cutest fur all over her body. It's my favorite part of newborns.

Also, our cat Coco had kittens. Four of them. There was 5, but one came out dead. I haven't really had time to go and look at them closely...but they are little. Two striped, and two black and white. Let me know if you want a kitten in 6 weeks. Don't worry she will get spayed ASAP! Also, we haven't' told Grace about them. I'm afraid she would kill them (not of purpose) while I was nursing Penny. She is going to go NUTS!
Here is a picture of our baby! Look at that blond fuzz. I can't. even. handle. it! AND, do you see that car seat cover? I know it isn't a good picture of it, but my cousin Whitney made it. ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME???? It is to die for. Sorry, she said she won't ever do it again. But I'm glad I got in on the deal before she decided it sucked.

Ha! I made a car seat cover for Ollie and said I'd never do it again too! It was a pain!
Post a better pic of it please:)
And, I love her little hair! She is adorable!
Oh my GOSH! She is adorable.
Enjoy your time big kid free--- it is so hard to spend equal time between kids...
Car seat cover is adorable.
"...but this newborn is so damn cute" haha. You are hilarious. She is pretty damn cute though ;) Hope you're doing good!! That's exciting your cat had kittens too...except I'm allergic to cats but I like kittens :) That car seat cover looks super cute! You should take a better pic of it so we can all see her creation in it's glory!
Beautiful baby! Congrats to you all. ♥♥♥
My mom made a car seat cover for a friend of mine and said it was so hard to make and that she would never do it again...shah they should come up with a better pattern
Oh gosh, there is NOTHING better than a contented little baby who can nurse like a champ!!! Congratulations!!
And if it helps at all, the whole birthing ball just pissed me off. I wanted to lay down and that's it. You did awesome, all I know is all I ask out of a birth is that I am in charge and I get to choose how it goes - no doctor tells me what to do, just me, baby, and my body! Happy day!!!
And the "so damn cute" thing is right!!!
She is beautiful! congrats Jami! I LOVE the blonde fuzz. I only had one baby with fuzz and it was my fav!(is that bad to say!) its
just so cute!
She is precious! Congrats!
After I get an epidural I basically have the baby. I had Claire 3 hours after the Epidural and I got it when I was at a 1. No one can tell me that doing it med free is better for my body. :) Its still a natural birth, I mean, you are not a robot. :)
@ molly, having a natural birth is not necessarily better for YOU but a heck of a lot better for your baby. And Jami, I Watched the business of being born, and did an all natural home birth, and it was the best thing i ever did in my life.
Having my baby at home with no pain relief wasn't pain free, but it's totally doable for any low risk women out there that want to. I would never do it in a hospital now. If you're into oils they have some to help manage the pain. Oh and it helps if you have a midwife or a doula.
Penny was so cute tonight. Congrats!
