I LOVE LOVE LOVE historical novels. It is the perfect combo...it is fun, and it makes me feel like I am learning things (well I really am learning things). For a long time my two favorite books were "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "Memories of a Geisha". You may have seen the movies. I loved "memories of a Geisha"...seriously, my favorite movie. BUT I HATED "the other Boleyn girl" .
Now it seems that my radar of "scum" isn't as high as other peoples. So a lot of times I offend people when I recommend books. So if you are easily offend...DON"T READ MY BOOKS! They will most likely make you think less of myself.
OK, that was all beside the point. The point is I have a new favorite pair of books. The first book is called "The Illuminator" and then it has a sequel "The Mercy Seller". They are seriously GREAT books. I didn't think they had a lot of "scum" in them. There is some sleeping around...BUT there is no detail. For the most part they were clean.
The books take place before the religious revolution in Europe. It is all about the Lollard Cause. It just strengthened my testimony of the people who sacrificed so much to help get our world ready for Jospeh Smith.
I think sometimes in our church ( me included ) we forget that there were so many before the restoration. So many people had to get people thinking about the gospel, and the love of Christ.
This book really sheds light on this time, and makes it really interesting to read about.
If you love Historical Novels...READ THESE BOOKS! But don't walk up to me if you don't like them, and tell me how horrible I am for reading them.

I can't wait to read them. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, thank you for the tip. I have been on a reading frenzy the last couple of days.
Dude! My tolerance for "scum" is pretty darn high. And I loved Memoirs! I read it sophomore year in high school. I am in love with reading and if a book has some raciness, well, then, that's what skimming is for. You get the gist and move on. You don't disregard a great book cuz a couple of pages are questionable. Kudos to you!
Don't you hate worrying about that? I'm afraid to recommend books sometimes because I don't want people to think I like trashy books. I skip over stuff I promise! PS I plan on visiting you Thursday! Is that ok?
