I generally get into trauma, but when Grace ran her sweet little ear into our front railing. THEN SPLIT her ear opened. Then proceeded to bleed all over herself. THEN I freaked out. I don't know what came over me. But seeing my little girls ear bleeding, and then seeing her ear split in half....it was too much. I had to do some quick breathing to get myself under control. After taking deep breaths, I looked at it more closely and decided that we definitely needed to make a trip to the ER.
We went to the ER, and waited...and waited...and waited....then we waited some more, just for fun (you know!). FINALLY we got put in a room...then guess what, we waited some more. I guess that Grace decided to split her ear opened on a VERY busy day at the ER, lucky us! After watching Kung Fu Panda more times than I want to remember, we were finally seen by the doctor. He said that it didn't look to bad, and that is should only at TEN FREAKING MIN'S to sew up. Um, excuse me, but did you just say that I have to hold my darling little one down for TEN FREAKING mins while you torture her? No thanks, please just knock her out (and me too). The doctor told us that it was such a small injury, and that knocking her out was really unnecessary . I said....no way...bring on the drugs. You might call me retarded, but there was no way in hell that I was going to put Grace though that....or myself!
So they got her hooked up to an IV (best nurse ever, got it in the first time SO FAST), and then 10 mins later she was OUT. So relaxed, so OUT! They called a Plastic Surgeon to do it, and Spencer and I left the room (well they forced us out). We got some dinner (best sandwich ever from a HOSPITAL?), then came back in 15 mins, and she was already waking up! When we walked in the nurse said that the cut was A LOT deeper than the first doctor thought. He said that blood had dried in the wound, and that when they cleaned it out they realized it was worse. So he was really glad that I choose to knock her out, and that they got the plastic surgeon. ME FREAKING TOO!
After Grace woke up, she ate a Popsicle, and proceeded to entertain the hospital staff with Disney songs. They gave her a shot of Antibiotics, and then we were on our way!
Last night was ROUGH to say the least. When the litocane (which by the way, why does the doctor describe it as"a little sting"...that is a whole lot of bull. Litocane hurts like the dickens!) wore off she was in pain, and I was fresh out of the chewable (aka CANDY) meds. So we gave her the liquid kind....and got about HALF of the stuff down her throat. So she would wake up every time she turned her head ALL NIGHT LONG. It just about broke Spencer and I's hearts. First thing in the morning we went and got some "candy" meds, and the world was a better place b/c of it. Thank you Heavenly Father for giving me hard core drugs that knocked my kid out, and then for both Tylenol and Motrin. You are the BEST!
It looks so much better today than yesterday. But I think that she has about 7 stiches...which is a lot more than the TWO that I thought she would get. Here are some close up of her battle wound. Not the best, but seeing as how if you even GLANCE at her ear she says "don't touchade it" this is the best I could do....
So sad. Today has been a lot of "hold you", and "sit, mommy, sit", and "don't touchade". I feel so bad for her. But I am sure than the severity of the situation has a lot to do with it being on her ear (OUCH!), and that this is my first child, and therefore everything is ten times bigger of a deal!
PS: did I mention that they gave me a script for antibiotics, and I have to give it to her ORALLY THREE FREAKING TIMES A DAY FOR SEVEN FREAKING DAYS? Yeah, why don't you tell me to lick an elephants butt 3 times a day for 7 days...that might be easier. Grace HATES liquid meds, and will SPIT it back in your face (regardless of me blowing gusts of wind into her mouth) if you put it in her mouth!

Oh wow! Poor girl. That looks like a nasty wound. And thank goodness for whatever drug that is to knock 'em out. They never could have done Justin's face without it either. Hope it feels fast. And good luck with those antibiotics. I guess I'm lucky that my kids it's just liquid candy. :)
Ooops. I meant hope it heals fast. Not feels fast.
Oh jamie that stinks. She looks like she is toughing it out. hate the er and battle scars.
That is so traumatic! Poor thing, i cant imagine. Thank goodness you took her in. Got to love the motherly instincts!
Jami- What a scary ordeal! It sounds like you handled it like a champ!

Um, I think I would have had a nervous breakdown. I'm glad you guys survived! Poor Grace... I hope she gets better soon. Oh, and good luck with those meds! Um, I need to come see you, but my baby is a compulsive napper. It's kind of great, but annoying at the same time. Also, I selfishly want you to not have a job. I miss it.
Holy Cow! That is scary. I can't even imagine! I really like the imagery of you licking an elephant's butt though. lol. I hope it heals quickly.
