OK...double HOUSE post!!! I am in a serious MAJOR crisis...NO JOKE!!! So in our dinning room I have the cutest chandlier. I got it at the domistic bliss spring fling...it spoke to me, and I couldn't leave without it. It came with shades for the lights. I haven't put them on yet because our house is really dusty, and I didn't want them to get dirty. WELL our house is finally getting clean, so I decided to put them up. I LOVED them. My problem came about when I forced Spencer to hang my bulliten board. The shades were messing up the "flow" of my house. They seem more "country", and I am really going for "vintage". SOOOO, I took them off..."ahh..thats better". Spencer freaked out "I LIKE THOSE"...wait a minete, Spencer has NEVER said anything about my decorating. His place is to make money, and mow the lawn...MY place is to decorate (I also have a place to do landry and clean, and be hot for my husband...mostly I just decorate). So I was SHOCKED! I couldn't belive that he accually had an opion??? So I said "honey...they are ruining my flow, I am trying to go for a more "vintage look", and they aren't fitting in". "please please please, leave them up, I really REALY like them". Well of course I won, and left them down.
Well tonight I went over there to clean, and get things ready for us to move in, and what do I see....those damn shades on my chandlier! I quickly took them off! So what does the blogging world think...should I leave them up, or take them down?
ALSO, I have the ugliest fire place. What should I do to fix it. I have NO money...so I need some cheap creative ideas. I thought about painting it...but what color? White would get dirty...so my next choice would be red...but I don't know if I have too much red already? Let me know bloggin world, I am really counting on you.

I have no idea--I'm not a good decorator at all, nor am I an expert on marriage issues. Heck, I should probably be divorced and living in a box.
BUT I still want to see your house, and I have that book you loaned me a year ago. (I never found your copy, so I bought another one. I hope that's okay!) Are you free on Wednesday? I'd love to swing by and see the cuteness!
I actually think the shades are really cute.
And as for the fireplace, if I were you, I would re-face it with tile. It's not too expensive, though may take some time. There are tons of websites though, that can walk you through it.
Hmm, with the decorative light bulbs, I almost like it better without shades too. But don't tell Spencer I said that.
And I have no idea about the fireplace. But Caleb is jealous that you at least have one. :)
Shades all the way. They are way better. Besides you don't want your house to be too bright. There was a study just released about the effects of UV rays on your eyes and how it can cause your pupils to struggle with dilating which cause night vision problems. You should really avoid lots of light at all times. Make your house dark and dim. It also give your house a nice gloomy feel to it. So I would keep the shapes. It looks alot better too. Alot better!!
I actually like it better with the shades....
As for the fireplace-- it looks like a child hazzerd! It looks dangerous! Good luck with that!
Hi Jamie. I love your blog. I actually like it without the shades. and as for the fireplace I would just clean out all the soot and maybe paint the inside brick black. I dunno. Id have to see it in person. But your decorations look so cute and it looks like its going to be perfect!
I think it all looks just lovely! How awesome to have your own place and be able to do with it whatever you please. I think the kitchen is amazing also and I would brag about it too if it was my own. Good luck with the decorating!
anonymous is my husband! Couldn't you tell. He is a vampire..not in the hot edward collins way, he just doesn't like light!
I'm with Spencer. I like the shades.
Spencer is hilarious...I was like, "who wants a 'nice gloomy' house?" Oh, Spencer! I actually like the shades because I think it makes the light look more finished, but it seems like people are 50/50 on this so I say just do what YOU like. It's your house! Besides everything is going to look fabulous no matter what because you have a Fabulous house!!
Jami, your house is really coming along! It looks darling; I'm really jealous you have your own house to decorate and make your own. As for the shades -- I'm going to say ditch them. And, I like that it makes the house brighter!
Wow, that's tough. I like the shades, but I like the extra light with them off too. What if you compromise and do a 6 months on, 6 months off thing. You like to decorate anyway - it'll give you a different look to play with every 6 months. :)
I love to see the progress on your house!! So fun.
whenever John has a specific opinion about the house, I let him win. That way he feels like he gets everything he wants. But I think you know who's in charge :) Maybe do something to distress the shades or give them a more antiqued feel?
That's too funny. Todd hates it when I ask his advice cause he says I just do what I want to anyways....regardless of his answer.:) I don't think I do. I ask him cause I care what he thinks, but if I decide the other way than that's the way I go.
But...you have to pick what fights are worth fighting for...so to speak. Maybe it would be worth letting him win this one....build his self esteem kind of thing. ?? I really don't have an opinion. I liked both.
