Graces First Camping Trip

Spencer convinced me that it was ok to bring Grace camping...OH BOY! I personally HATE camping, I hate being cold at night...or being hot, I hate being uncomfortable, I hate having to find somewhere to pee..or worse..POO! I hate having to make food in the wilderness, I hate being dirty (i know, I always look dirty, but camping dirty is different), I hate smelling like camp fire, and I hate it when the smoke from the fire comes in your face! Pretty much I hate it...BUT spencer LIVES to camp. He loves it more then anything, and so being the wife that I am, I decided that I would go. I got us all ready to go, and then we were off. I was having fun, and grace was liking the outdoors till night came...then it was FREEZING! I was so cold, and I was so worried that Grace was getting cold that I didn't sleep AT ALL! It was the most horrible night ever...so I decided that the next morning I would pack up and leave. I wasn't going to risk Grace getting sick! So before I left I got these pictures of grace...by the looks of them...Grace HATES camping too (like mother like daughter), she hated always having to have so many clothes on. Anyways, I drove home alone, because spencer wanted to stay and hunt some more. I thought it would be ok...but boy was I wrong! Grace SCREAMED...I mean really screamed the whole way home! I thought I was going to pull my hair out...every alarm in my body was going off, and I just wanted to put my head out the window and yell at the top of mmy lungs! SO I started to speed...not on purpose...I just did it, because my body and mind were telling me to get home FAST! So I got pulled over...and that my friends was the last of my straws! I was tierd, and I had just got done camping, and my baby was screaming, and I just started to cry. Now, I have gotten pulled over many of times, but this was the first time that I cried! Grace was screaming when I rolled the window down, and the poor officer looked at my frazled face, and the next thing I knew I was telling him the whole dang story! "Me and my husband were camping, and it was too cold, so I left early, and my baby has been screaming the whole way home, and I just started to speed...I guess...and I just want to get home"! Oh, the poor man...he had no other choice..."I will just give you a warning"! Oh the blessed man..I will love him till the day I die! So I got grace home, and as soon as I took her out of her car seat (her face was red, and her eyes were swollen, and she was doing those sharp breaths that you do after you are done crying really hard), she was happy! I started to cry again when I saw her...what can I say, I just love her, and it was so hard to listen to her scream for so long! So there you have it...Graces first camping trip...probally the last one for a really long time!

Jami! Wow, you REALLY hate camping! That was quite the story -- the poor police man. It looks like Spencer adores camping, especially in his camo! I'm glad you attemped to camp, but please, just sit inside and decorate from now on! Bytheway, I'm quite a fan of camping, maybe you should come try it out in Utah. Nothing beats campfire s'mores, songs, and stories!

oh jami. i am so sorry but i loved this story! i could picture you through the whole thing! this was a very valid and justifiable time to cry in front of the cop. and grace is still one of the most adorable babies i have ever seen!

While I hate to laugh at someone else's pain, that story is pretty funny. Poor Grace. Poor you. Poor unsuspecting cop. And that first pic of Grace is too cute. What an expression! When we go camping I always worry the kids are too cold, too. Then tend to end up sleeping with us. Except I'm cold and uncomfortable and not sleeping. But for some reason, I still enjoy camping!

Looks like we have a Sassafras baby on our hands. Zach and I just laughed so hard over her expression. I can just hear her now" I cant believe you brought me here!" What a Story Jam. What a frustrating experience.

I was there too. And it WAS cold! That first night I couldn't decided if I had to stick my nose out of the covers and freeze it off or stick my whole head in the covers and sufficate. But when we got up the next morning and I asked Jami how she did, she said she was cold, but she wasn't crying or bawling or anything. I was so proud of her. In fact, I was surprised when she said she was going home. (Except I could completely understand her desire to keep Grace warm.) She acted like she herself was doing just fine. She put up a very brave front! We love you so much, Jami. And we can tell you truly love Spencer.

Hi there! My name is Melissa and my husband Ryan was mission buddies with your husband. I just wanted to tell you that you have a cute baby! I think our babies are right around the same age. Also, I can totally relate to the bad car trip thing, we had a real bad one at Thanksgiving going to visit Ryan's family. Not fun at all!

Jamie, I'm so sorry that you had such a miserable time camping. I guess this means that you won't be going with Zach and Whitney when they try out their new camping stove! That little face of Gracie's is adorable!!!! What a little sweetheart. Personally, I think she was crying so hard because she didn't want to leave! haha
