Camping is NOT my favorite thing...

Lately in life I have been noticing all of my favorite things. I love so many things in my life. There are countless things that I am grateful for.

Camping is NOT one of them. I should clarify before I begin that I REALLY hate camping when it is cold at night.

Now I realize that my husband LOVES camping. He loves the great outdoors, and daydreams most of the day that he could live out their with the beasts of the land. I feel somewhat of a need to be a good wife, and go with him camping. After all it is what he dreamed about ever since he was a teenager..camping with his wife, kids, and dog (or so he tells me)! Since Spencer does all that he can to make my dreams come true...I might as well try and makes his come true as well.

That is how this whole weekend camping business got started. Spencer said that acouple of his brother and THEIR families (i.e. their good wife's that LOVE to camp) were going camping to sycamore creek over the weekend. It would only be one night, and it should be very cold. So I agreed.

We get there, and right away I am not having any fun. It is cold, and Grace is running around everywhere trying to jump in to fires and so forth.
THEN it gets MORE cold, and I am stuck pressed against a fire trying to get warmth...but wait...then the fire starts pushing smoke into my face. I HATE it when the smoke goes in my face (yea right smoke follows beauty that is a load of bull). But I can't go away from the fire, b/c it is freezing. THEN I decide it is time to go to bed, but this is my least favorite part of the WHOLE camping business.

I hate it when you go to your tent, and then get undressed...you are freezing now b/c your warm clothes are gone. THEN you climb into your sleeping bag, and what do you know....

IT IS FREEZING!!!!

Then you are even more cold. THEN you realize that your face is more cold than the rest of your body b/c it is outside the sleeping bag. So you put it under the sleeping bag...wait...now you can't breath...dang it you have to put it back out...now it is even MORE COLD!

OH, I was pissed. Some people would just laugh...I understand that I have a weakness. I don't just "laugh" like Elder Within told me too. I get PISSED! I start saying four letter words like I am white trash...and getting mad. I yell at Spencer "WHAT IS FUN ABOUT THIS???" Poor Spencer. Poor Poor POOR Spencer. He was sweet enough to find me a rock that was by the fire, and put it in my bag to get me warm. It didn't really work...but it was still really nice of him (considering that I just cussed him out).

Anyways...the worst part of the whole thing is that we went to bed at 10:30...and we still had a WHOLE night ahead of us. I hate it b/c it feels like I am not sleeping...but I am...but I feel kinda like I am dreaming. I hate that feeling.

So I vow NEVER to camp in the winter again. I will go in the spring or fall...NEVER in the winter or summer (summer is to hot).

Grace and Spencer and Finn loved the whole trip. So I in spring I will go again, so that I can make my Husbands dreams come true...and so that grace and Finn can have fun again.

THE END!

You would think Spencer would have learned by now! HOw many times have you gone camping and how many times have you cussed him out? Poor Spencer. Looks like the kiddos had fun though.

I don't know if you guys know but my oldest brother Heber has gotten way into camping. He goes every Friday night/Saturday morning. I think it is literally true that he goes every Friday. Often he goes by himself but he also often brings 1 of his kids (I don't know if Debbie ever goes). When he sees good sights, he blogs about it and also blogs about his equipment on his "camping blog": http://heberhiking.blogspot.com/

For me, camping is something nice to do every once in a while. But I can TOTALLY relate to Jamie on 1 thing. The worst thing in the world is being out camping and getting cold without being able to warm up. When my scouting troupe went on a Klondike Derby in the snow, my feet got cold and that took ALL the fun out of it for all 3 days or so. It was really really hard.

Ouch, that's rough. I actually wouldn't mind camping too much, but like you said...only in the spring or (for here) summer. Fall and winter are just too cold

Thanks for the laugh! Is is really white trash to Cus husbands out?...I better go and re-evaluate some things like if I'm white trash or something. Does it count if I just curse in my head?

Anyway I would love to help with the shower so let me know.

haha! I completely agree with you, camping is not much fun. Cameron is the same way as Spencer. He is always begging to go camping and we rarely go. We went once and left the next morning at like 7 because it was cold and we didn't know what to do. haha.

I have never ever enjoyed camping with babies. Mine always cried because they were too cold!

This post looks mighty similar to a previous one that I saw a while back... Hmmm.. Sorry you hate it so much. Why doesn't he just go with some guy friends?

Now imagine camping in the winter, in IDAHO! I have never even agreed to try. The men in my family do it though. They camp in the SNOW!!!
No way, I'm not even going to attempt.
Kudos for giving winter camping a try.

So my husband John was peeking over and reading your blog while I was. He was totally reading it all and said that he knows exactly what you mean about the sleeping bag thing.

I'm the one that likes camping in our relationship. John thinks a hotel is much better.

Hey Jami, I joined a camping family and have been camping on the rim for a week every summer for almost 30 years now. I used to feel the same way you do, but now I just hate it when its time to come home. I don't like nights though because it is cold and I usually have to go to the bathroom 6 times during those cold nights.I cope by making Dave get up and guard me and then He gets to warm me back up. Its a tough job! PC

Jami, I am so glad you guys came though! I got a couple of pictures of Grace that I thought were really cute, until I came home and realized she had boogers... I will have to figure out how to photoshop those out and send them to you.

I like camping sometimes. But not when it's freezing & you have to sleep on rocky ground, etc. Looks like your little puppy & Grace had fun though!
