RS vs. Elders!

Caution: You might think I am complaining, and that I hate my calling after reading this post. However, you are wrong. I love my calling, and I love serving the lord, I just am surprised at the difference in men and woman.
What I have come to find out is a simple fact about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
Spencer is the Secretary of the Elders Quorum, and I am the Secretary of the Relief Society (how cute)! Well when I got the calling I thought "Spencer doesn't have to do hardly any work, this will be just fine". THEN, I realized how TRULY wrong that statement is. Spencer spends probably 5 hours A MONTH on his calling. Not because Spencer is not serving to his fullest, he simply doesn't have that much to do.
I, on the other hand spend about 10 hours A WEEK on RS stuff. Not anything really that important, just STUFF! I enjoy doing my "stuff", but it is still a lot! Spencer has to do numbers at the end of the month, and take attendance. I have to do numbers, take attendance, make a bulletin every week with birthdays, events, and anythings that has happened with any of the woman in the ward. I have to make a cute poster that says everything that the bulletin does, but cute, and bigger. I have to make a conducing sheet for whoever is conducing. I have to make a weekly newsletter, and email it all of the sisters. I have to send out birthday cards to all of the sisters that have birthdays that week. Have to plan lunch brunch. Then we have our weekly presidency meetings at....get this...6:00 AM in the morning every Wednesday!!!! I have to take notes, and then email the assignments to the other members of the presidency. Then we have our monthly temple presidency trip!!! I do have to mention that I have missed the last 2 presidency meeting, due to sleeping in and forgetting(my excuse is that I am not that responsible...I just am not, I will not try and lie to my older presidency members).
So my point is, that as I was sitting at this computer for hours tonight, making cute things, and typing my figures away, Spencer was laughing. He was laughing because while I was doing my "calling", he was checking blogs, and watching a movie! That is the difference between Elders Quorum and Relief Society.
Oh, and I really am so thankful to serve, and I don't' mind doing my calling. It is fun, and I have really enjoyed getting to know the sisters more. I am just surprised..that's all!

Holy cow!! I had to read that out loud to my husband and he couldn't believe it either. I think you might have an over-zealous RS pres. That's a LOT of work for a secretary!!! But I'm impressed with your appreciation and good attitude. (it really is funny that you're both secretaries).

I'd have a hard time with the 6am meeting too. Jess has bishopric meeting every sunday at 6am and has such a hard time getting there. He's slept through his alarm more than once. It's just really early to be up ready and somewhere by 6.

Wow, you have to do a lot! I've never worked in RS before, but it sounds like a lot! And I have to agree with you on the Elders quorom thing. I spend more time on my calling than my husband does (usually) and he's the President! Also, he was once the Sec. for EQ, and literally had nothing to do!

Been there done that! Why do you think the church runs sooo smoothly? The Relief Society is why!!!

so true and too funny. But, sometimes, I think we women bring that upon ourselves by being overachievers? Or we just like doing cute things and giving service more?? I do think you have A LOT of duties. for example...Whoever is conducting can write up their own paper....that's my two cents.
